A Love/ Hate Relationship: The Case For Esau Part Two

Hello everyone and I appreciate all of you who were blessed by part one of this topic about Esau. The reason I am focusing on this topic is because of a Bible verse in Romans 9 that I believe is misunderstood by a lot of our Christian brothers and sisters.

If you haven’t read part one yet..... I would encourage you to read it first before you read this part.

Here’s the link for Part one if you haven’t read it yet. https://eternityawaits4u.blogspot.com/2021/03/a-love-hate-relationshipthe-case-for.html

In part one we focused on Romans 9:13 which states that God loved Jacob and hated Esau.

We also mentioned that some people look at this verse and come to the conclusion that Jacob was chosen for Salvation and Esau was chosen for reprobation or damnation.

I believe that this is an overly simplistic view of this passage, and as those who are called to Study to show ourselves approved we need to dig deeper into what is meant through these difficult passages in God’s Word.

In this part of the case for Esau.... I hope to show how Salvation was received during the time between Abraham and Moses, and I believe that you will be blessed as we discover deeper understanding and insight into God’s Word.

SO HERE WE GO!!!!

We are all familiar with Ephesians 2:8-9 where it says that we are saved by grace through faith and that not of yourselves it is the gift of God.....not of works lest any man should boast.

Without getting into how some people interpret this verse.....it is CLEAR that we are saved by God’s Grace through Faith, and I am going to show you scriptures that make a strong case that this is EXACTLY How Salvation and forgiveness of sins was received during the time before Jesus Christ came to earth and died for our sins, was buried for our sins and rose from the grave victoriously CONQUERING DEATH on the third day for our sins!!!!

During the time of Esau, Jacob, and Isaac they lived under the Abrahamic covenant which was God’s promise that all the nations would be blessed through Abraham’s seed and later on in Genesis 32 we find out the name of this nation is Israel after Jacob wrestles with God.

Just like we believe that Jesus Christ died for our sins, was buried for our sins, and rose from the dead for our sins.....in Abraham’s time they received righteousness from God by believing in the abrahamic covenant and the promises made to Abraham that required Faith as well.

If you read Genesis 15:5-6 it gives the account of God showing Abram the stars and letting him know that his offspring will be as numerous than the stars, and he believed God and ir was accounted to him as righteousness.

So during the time of Abraham Isaac Jacob and Esau people were saved by believing in God‘s promise to Abraham.

God also promised that through Abraham’s seed that all the nations in the world would be blessed.

It’s important to point that out because we need to know how Salvation was appropriated during the time of Esau before we can show the evidence that Esau believed these promises.

I am going to give two examples in the old testament why I believe Esau did believe these promises and receive the same righteousness that Abraham received ....even though Esau’s brother Jacob was elected to be the line that the Messiah would come through.

The first example is when Isaac was deceived by Rebecca and Jacob and Isaac gave the blessing to Jacob and Esau returned with the meal that Isaac had asked for.

In Genesis 27:30-44 it gives the account of how Esau wept on two separate occasions when he found out that Jacob received  the blessing that was supposed to go to Esau

Obviously this blessing meant a lot to Esau which is why Esau was so angry with Jacob and he even wanted to kill him as you read this passage in Genesis 27.

But something amazing happens when you continue reading in Genesis and get to Genesis chapter 33.  About 20 years after this event....Jacob and Esau reunite again and Jacob is very scared as he remembers the anger and hatred that Esau had towards him.

In Genesis 33:4-11 you see two brothers who after 20 years embrace and show love towards one another bless one another and Jacob says something very interesting in this passage.

In verse 10 Jacob tells Esau that when he looked at him it was like he was looking at the face of God!!!

That’s quite a statement from Jacob!!!

So whenever I read the story of Jacob and Esau I don’t see two people that God created and destined one to go to heaven and one to go to hell.

I see two brothers who understood be privileges and the honors of being the person that would continue the line that the Messiah would ultimately come through. it was so heartbreaking for Esau that he would not be that child.

But at the end we see if your brothers who ultimately reconciled their relationship and Esau was blessed by Jacob with earthly possessions as well as the biggest honor I think anybody could receive on this side of eternity is when Jacob tells Esau that looking at him was like looking at the face of God!!!!

That’s something that we all as believers in Jesus Christ should desire πŸ˜€

And don’t forget what God told Abraham.....God will bless those who bless them and curse those who curse thee, and even though Esau’s descendants The Edomites were enemies of Israel.....I can confidently say that Esau blessed Jacob and because of this God blessed Esau with righteousness as well!!!

God bless you all,

I hope that you enjoyed this 2 part series of the case for Esau.......Be blessed
