The Second feast of The Lord

THE 2ND FEAST OF THE LORD

THE FEAST OF UNLEAVENED BREAD

During the Feast of Passover we saw the connection between the events that took place during the 1st Passover and The Crucifixion Passover.

Here’s a short summary:

The Israelites chose a Lamb on the 10th of the Month which is the SAME DAY that Jesus Christ entered Jerusalem for THE TRIUMPHAL ENTRY.

The Israelites killed that lamb on the 14th of the same month and placed the blood of the lamb around their door and above the door so the Angel would “PASSOVER” their house and the Firstborn would not be killed. This is the SAME DAY That Jesus Christ “THE ONLY BEGOTTEN SON” was crucified.

The Egyptians rushed the Israelites out of Egypt the SAME WAY Jesus Christ was rushed off The Cross.

I’m sure if I asked you what happened after Jesus Christ was taken off The Cross all of you would know that he was buried, but I want to show you how the 1st feast of unleavened bread took place and how Jesus Christ fulfilled it with His Burial.

Check out this passage in Leviticus 23:4-5,,,”4 In the fourteenth day of the first month at even is the Lord's passover. 5 And on the fifteenth day of the same month is the feast of unleavened bread unto the Lord: seven days ye must eat unleavened bread.”

If you remember in our study about how Jewish people count days and nights, the next day of the week starts in the evening and ends the following evening based on the Genesis creation week.  Here’s a quick example from Genesis 1:5…”And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.”

It’s VERY IMPORTANT to understand this so you can see how Jesus Christ fulfilled the feast of Unleavened Bread in His Earthly Ministry.

The other important thing is to understand what it means when The Bible says the 6th or 9th hour.

When I would read the Crucifixion account of Jesus Christ when I was younger….I would just think that it was another way of saying 6pm or 9pm, but then I learned what Jewish People meant by that and it blew my mind!!!

Here’s an example…. In Matthew 27:43-46 this is what it says ....”43 He trusted in God; let him deliver him now, if he will have him: for he said, I am the Son of God. 44  The thieves also, which were crucified with him, cast the same in his teeth. 45  Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour. 46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

When I was younger I just thought that the sixth hour meant 6pm. And the 9th hour meant 9pm.  But this phrase refers to how many hours have taken place after sunrise in Israel….not the actual time.  The average sunrise in Israel is 6 in the morning….or 6am. As we would call it. So when you see the 6th hour and the 9th hour in verse 45, that is the 6th hour and the 9th hour from sunrise.  Since the average sunrise is at 6am, when you add 6 hours to that, it takes you to 12 noon. Also the 9th hour would be at 3pm our time.  So this darkness that came all over Israel took place between 12 noon and 3pm on the 14th which is the SAME DAY THE PASSOVER LAMBS WERE BEING EATEN WHILE THE ISRAELITES WERE IN EGYPT.

The other thing to keep in mind is that the Israelites needed time to roast the lamb and they were also commanded to eat the lamb a certain way along with putting the blood on the top and sides of the door before nighttime  so I wouldn’t be surprised if they were eating the lamb around the same time The Lamb Of God was being crucified for the sins of the world.  I can’t prove that was the case, but I’m sure that the Israelites in Egypt wanted to eat a little earlier than normal so they could make sure they put the blood that will save the life of their firstborn on the door until the lamb was eaten.  They also had to get ready to leave Egypt….so I have a feeling they ate a little earlier than normal given the circumstances.

Now let's go back to the crucifixion.  At around 3pm Jesus Christ is dead on The Cross and the leaders want to get Him off The Cross because they have a “Special Sabbath” and they don’t want the bodies to remain on the cross as it was a Roman Custom to keep the bodies there to send a message to others.

The Jewish Historian Josephus tells a story of the Romans crucifying people along the walls of Jerusalem. He also says that the Roman soldiers would amuse themselves by crucifying criminals in different positions. In Roman-style crucifixion, the condemned took days to die slowly from suffocation—caused by the condemned's blood-supply slowly draining away to a quantity insufficient to supply the required oxygen to vital organs. The dead body was left up for vultures and other birds to consume.

So if Jesus is going to fulfill the Feast of Unleavened Bread which is on the 15th with His burial….a miracle is going to have to happen, AND IT DOES!!!

Because of this Special sabbath they had to prepare for, Scripture shows that the Romans granted the request to not leave the bodies on the cross for humiliation.

Keep in mind that a new day begins at evening so once Jesus Christ had been buried the 15th started at evening so our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ fulfilled the Feast of Unleavened Bread when He was buried on the 15th!!!

SO FAR WE HAVE LEARNED THAT JESUS CHRIST FULFILLED THE FEAST OF PASSOVER WHEN HE WAS CRUCIFIED

AND JESUS CHRIST WAS BURIED DURING THE FEAST OF UNLEAVENED BREAD.

It’s VERY SIGNIFICANT that He was buried during this Feast because throughout The Bible “leaven” refers to sin, and Our Savior Jesus Christ was sinless. Here’s a couple verses showing this before we move to the next Feast.

1 Corinthians 5:6-8…”6 Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump? 7 Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us: 8Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.”

Luke 12:1….”1 In the mean time, when there were gathered together an innumerable multitude of people, insomuch that they trode one upon another, he (Jesus Christ) began to say unto his disciples first of all, Beware ye of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.

HOPE THIS STUDY IS A BLESSING TO YOU….NOW WE GO TO THE FEAST OF FIRST FRUITS!!!
