The Fourth Feast of The Lord

 THE 4TH FEAST OF THE LORD 

THE FEAST OF WEEKS 

ALSO KNOWN AS PENTECOST

So far we have covered the first three Feasts of The Lord, and I'm sure that you have been blessed by them as you see how these Feasts are connected to the events that not only took place during Jesus” Earthly Ministry, but to see the connection with how these Feasts of The Lord originated and the deeper connection these Feasts have when it comes to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Before we get into this exciting Feast that most Christians associate with the birth of the Church when The Holy Spirit was poured out on the 12 Apostles on the Day Of Pentecost….let’s look at how the previous 3 Feasts are connected from the time they First took place, and the connection they had with Jesus Christ’s Earthly Ministry.

THE FEAST OF PASSOVER

FIRST TIME IN EGYPT: 

THE FIRSTBORN CHILD OF THOSE WHO DIDN’T HAVE THE BLOOD OF THE LAMB ON THEIR DOOR WAS KILLED

DURING JESUS CHRIST’S EARTHLY MINISTRY: 

THE ONLY BEGOTTEN SON OF GOD SHED HIS BLOOD AS THE LAMB OF GOD SO THAT WHOSOEVER BELIEVES IN HIM WILL NOT PERISH.

BOTH PASSOVERS OCCURRED ON THE SAME DAY,,,,,NISAN 14!!!

THE FEAST OF UNLEAVENED BREAD

FIRST TIME IN EGYPT: 

THE ISRAELITES WERE BEING RUSHED OUT OF EGYPT INTO THE WILDERNESS

DURING JESUS CHRIST’S EARTHLY MINISTRY: 

JESUS CHRIST WAS BEING RUSHED OFF THE CROSS TO BE BURIED

BOTH FEASTS OF UNLEAVENED BREAD OCCURRED ON THE SAME DAY,,,,,NISAN 15!!!

THE FEAST OF FIRST FRUITS

FIRST TIME IN EGYPT: 

THE ISRAELITES WERE CROSSING THE RED SEA WHILE THEIR ENEMIES WERE DESTROYED, THE ISRAELITES WERE SET FREE FROM THE BONDAGE THEY HAD ENDURED FOR 430 YEARS!!!  (Exodus 12:40)

DURING JESUS CHRIST’S EARTHLY MINISTRY: 

JESUS CHRIST ROSE FROM THE GRAVE 4000+ YEARS AFTER  THE FALL IN GENESIS 3 CONQUERING DEATH AND SETTING US FREE FROM THE PENALTY OF SIN AND DEATH WHEN WE BELIEVE IN JESUS CHRIST AS OUR SAVIOR.

BOTH FEASTS OF FIRST FRUITS OCCURRED ON THE 15TH

INTERESTING NOTE: JUST LIKE THE ISRAELITES HAD TO HAVE FAITH AND TRUST THE LORD WHILE CROSSING THE RED SEA….WE HAVE TO HAVE FAITH AND TRUST THE LORD WHEN WE BELIEVE IN JESUS CHRIST AS OUR SAVIOR.

HERE WE GO WITH PENTECOST 

ALSO CALLED THE FEAST OF WEEKS

THIS WILL BE AN AMAZING STUDY!!!

If you ask most Christians what the most important event after Jesus Christ was crucified, buried, and rose again most Christians would say that it was The Day Of Pentecost.  On this historic day in Church History The Holy Spirit was poured out on the Apostles and the other believers in Jesus Christ as their Savior that were gathered together.

This event took place EXACTLY 50 DAYS after Jesus Christ Rose From The Dead on The Feast of First Fruits!!!

If you ask most Christians or Jews what the most significant event after The Israelites left Egypt marched NON STOP TO THE RED SEA, and watched Pharaoh's army get destroyed after they crossed, most would say that it was when The Lord gave The 10 Commandments to Israel.

Both of these events have a lot of similarities as well. In Modern Day Judaism they celebrate this day as the period of time that they received The 10 Commandments and the Torah at Mount Sinai.  

ONE IMPORTANT THING TO KEEP IN MIND IS THAT THE ISRAELITES WERE AT MOUNT SINAI AT LEAST 83 DAYS…..AND THE DAY OF PENTECOST WAS A ONE DAY EVENT.  BUT I KNOW YOU WILL LOVE THE PARALLELS BETWEEN THINGS THAT HAPPENED DURING THESE 2 IMPORTANT EVENTS!!!!!

1. This feast starts the Harvest Season in Israel.The Day of Pentecost started the Heavenly Harvest of Souls for those who Believe in Jesus Christ as Their Savior.  

In Matthew 9:36-38 it says this…”36 But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd. 37 Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; 38 Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.  

Here you see the connection with Salvation and The Harvest.  PRETTY COOL!!!

1. The Israelites were gathered together at Mount Sinai, and the Followers of Jesus Christ were gathered in the upper room.

1. The events at Mount Sinai marked the beginning of the Mosaic Law and the Levitical Priesthood, and this day in the upper room we were set free from The Law and are called Priests and Kings to our High Priest Jesus Christ!!! 

Revelation 5:9-10 says…”9 And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation; 10And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.

           

1 Peter 2:9-10 says….”9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light; 10 Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

1. The Law brought death and The Holy Spirit brought life. 

I mention this to compare 2 events that took place at Mount Sinai and the Day of Pentecost.

Check out what The Apostle Paul says in Romans 7:10…”10 And the commandment, which was ordained to life, I found to be unto death.”

The punishment at Mount Sinai for people who worshipped The Golden Calf

Exodus 32:28...”And the children of Levi did according to the word of Moses: and there fell of the people that day about three thousand men.”

The amount of people Saved on The Day of Pentecost 

Acts 2:41....”Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.”

As you can see 3000 people died for violating the Law and worshiping the golden calf, and 3000 were saved on the Day of Pentecost!!!!

 

1. At Mount Sinai God’s Presence was accompanied with FIRE, SMOKE, THUNDERS AND LIGHTNINGS…..In the Upper Room there was MIGHTY WINDS, AND TONGUES OF FIRE SAT UPON THEM!!!

Exodus 19:16-19 says…”16 And it came to pass on the third day in the morning, that there were thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud upon the mount, and the voice of the trumpet exceeding loud; so that all the people that was in the camp trembled. 17  And Moses brought forth the people out of the camp to meet with God; and they stood at the nether part of the mount. 18 And mount Sinai was altogether on a smoke, because the Lord descended upon it in fire: and the smoke thereof ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount quaked greatly. 19 And when the voice of the trumpet sounded long, and waxed louder and louder, Moses spake, and God answered him by a voice.

 In the upper room Acts 2:1-3 says this….”1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.

1. God’s voice was heard at Mount Sinai possibly in 70 languages, and On the Day of Pentecost people from many nations heard the Disciples in their own language even though the disciples were speaking in Hebrew through the Power of The Holy Spirit!!!!

Acts 2:4-11...”4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. 5 And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven. 6 Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language. 7 And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans? 8 And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born? 9 Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia, 10 Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes, 11 Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.”

There is a well-known Midrash, A Midrash is a Jewish commentary on Scripture. Shemot Rabbah, which is Hebrew for “Great Exodus”, records in 5:9,

“On the occasion of the giving of the Torah, the Children of Israel not only heard the LORD’s Voice but actually saw the sound waves as they emerged from the LORD’s mouth. They visualized them (the sound waves) as a fiery substance.Each commandment that left the LORD’s mouth traveled around the entire camp and then came back to every Jew individually.”

It goes on to record Rabbi Yochanan saying, “God’s voice, as it was uttered, split up into seventy voices, in 70 languages, so that all the nations should understand.”

Even though this isn’t in The Bible I find this interesting because even though the PRIMARY AUDIENCE were The Israelites who just left Egypt....it shows how God wanted EVERY NATION to be aware of His Law and Commandments.

And even though the primary audience in Jerusalem on The Day of Pentecost were Hebrew Believers.....God wanted the others gathered from other nations to hear the Gospel in their Language and receive Salvation as well!!!

1. The 10 Commandments and The Torah that they received at Mount Sinai (The First 5 books of The Bible) that is what guided them.

At the Day of Pentecost Believers Received The Holy Spirit which guides us as Christians!!!

In John 16:13 Jesus Christ makes this statement to the disciples....”13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.”

THIS ENDS THE FOUR SPRING FEASTS AND I HOPE THAT YOU NOT ONLY SEE HOW JESUS CHRIST FULFILLED THE FEAST OF PASSOVER WHEN HE WAS CRUCIFIED, THE FEAST OF UNLEAVENED BREAD WHEN HE WAS BURIED, THE FEAST OF FIRST FRUITS WHEN HE RESURRECTED, AND THE FEAST OF PENTECOST WHEN THE HOLY SPIRIT WAS POURED OUT AND THE CHURCH BEGAN.

I HOPE YOU SEE HOW THE EVENTS DURING ISRAEL’S EXODUS FROM EGYPT ARE CONNECTED AS WELL!!!
