Genesis: The Book of Beginnings

Day Four - Wednesday Genesis 1:14-19 -“Sun, Moon and Stars”

 14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:

15 And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.

16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.

17 And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth,

18 And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good.

19 And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.

Yes, these lights provided light to Earth from the heavens but that is not the main reason these lights were created.

Ecclesiastes 3:1......” To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:”

These lights seem like God’s messaging system to us.

The stars and lights in the heavens were signs for the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ.Matthew 2:1-15.....”Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,

2 Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.

3 When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.

4 And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born.

5 And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written by the prophet,

6 And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel.

7 Then Herod, when he had privily called the wise men, enquired of them diligently what time the star appeared.

8 And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also.

9 When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was.

10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.

11 And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense and myrrh.

12 And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.

13 And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.

14 When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt:

15 And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son.

The sun and the moon were a very important sign and what is called “Joshua‘s long day”

Joshua 10:12-14.....” 12 Then spake Joshua to the Lord in the day when the Lord delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon; and thou, Moon, in the valley of Ajalon.

13 And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is not this written in the book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day.

14 And there was no day like that before it or after it, that the Lord hearkened unto the voice of a man: for the Lord fought for Israel.”

Jesus Christ prophesies that there will be signs in the heavens before His 2nd second coming.

Matthew 24:29-30

29 “Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:

30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.”

*****INTERESTING NOTE******* 

Since God is eternal and operates outside of time time time did not officially begin until Genesis 1:5 when He declared the evening and the morning were the first day..... and days months and years did not exist until Genesis 1:14-16.

Day Five- Thursday Genesis 1:20-23 “God creates Sea Creatures and Birds.”

20 And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven.

21 And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

22 And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth.

23 And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.

I noticed an interesting connection between God‘s order and Satan‘s order.

Seas were created before Dry land “Earth” appeared. Lights in the heavens appeared after the Sea and the Earth.

Satan has always wanted to imitate God even though Satan will never be God!!! Look at these events from Revelation chapter 13.

Revelation 13:1....”And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy.”

Revelation 13:11....”11 And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon”

Revelation 13:13....”13 And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men,”

Satan uses the same order of creation for his representatives to come Sea “Antichrist” Earth “False prophet to do wonders in the heavens to deceive those on the Earth.

Those of us who have put our Faith in what Jesus Christ did for the world when He died for our sins and rose from the dead on the 3rd Day will be in Heaven with the Lord when these events take place. 

                        

                      AMEN!!!

Look at what Jesus promises us for believing in Him as our Savior to be saved in Revelation 3:10....” 10 Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.”
