Day 7 of creation week- Good News From God Bible Study Genesis to Revelation

Here’s the notes from Day seven of creation week

Good News From God Ministries Bible Study Genesis to Revelation

Genesis- The Book of Beginnings

Day 7- Saturday Genesis 2:1-3 “The Lord blesses and sanctifies the Sabbath”

“1. Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. 2. And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. 3. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.”

if you ask people when the Sabbath day was ordained by God; most regular Christians would point you to Exodus chapter 20:9-11 when The Lord gave Moses the Ten Commandments to deliver to the Israelites.

These verses are when The Lord put the Commandments in stone for the Israelites, but it is not when the Sabbath day was instituted and ordained by The Lord.

When we talk about the Sabbath day today a lot of thoughts go through our minds.

As we will see throughout our study when God gives something to man it is pure and perfect before it was given to man, but once it has been given to man we can’t help but corrupt what the intention of God was when he delivered it to man.

If you go to Israel these days you will see so many additional rules and regulations that Rabbis have placed upon the Israelites with regards to the Sabbath day.

They even have elevators in hotels in Israel called Sabbath elevators.  These elevators are designed to go to each floor and stop one floor at a time so that the person does not have to push a button on the elevator to go to the floor they want to go to.

It has gotten so out of control that orthodox Jews in Israel consider pushing a button on an elevator to be work. I know this sounds crazy but that is how crazy it has gotten.

Some Christians believe that when Jesus Christ died for our sins was buried and rose again that the Sabbath has been done away with and they look at Sunday as the “New Sabbath”

With all the do’s and dont’s that have been associated with the Sabbath day it might surprise you what the original purpose of the Sabbath day is.

This Sabbath day was intended by God to be a day when man will focus on the Lord.  Paul makes an interesting point about the sabbath day in Colossians 2:16-17.....”16. Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: 17. Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.”

Paul understood that the Colossians were under pressure from the Jews trying to get them to observe the 10 Commandments and the Sabbath to be saved instead of trusting in the FINISHED WORK on The Cross.

Paul also understood that these things were only a shadow of things to come.

Here’s an interesting prophecy in Isaiah 66:22-23 about the Millennium Reign of Jesus Christ.....” 22 For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the Lord, so shall your seed and your name remain.

23 And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the Lord.”

So apparently during the 1000 year reign of Christ here on earth we will worship the Lord on Saturday or the Sabbath.

It’s important that we understand that once we believe in Jesus Christ as our Savior we receive forgiveness of sins and we are no longer bound to laws and regulations.  Just like Jesus Christ says in John 8:36....”36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.”

We are no longer under man’s laws, regulations, or ordinances now that we are a Child of God, and we do not have to worry about keeping The Law or doing enough good things because our salvation was paid for in full by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ through his death burial and resurrection 2000 years ago!!!!

I also believe this is the reason when Moses got the 10 Commandments from God that it said Remember the Sabbath day to keep it Holy. I believe this is The Lord letting them know that He wants us to spend at least one day to focus on Him.

It is important to keep in mind that we are not under The Law, we are under God’s Grace but don’t get too caught up in your own life and forget about the Lord who made our lives possible!!!

Genesis 2:4-25 “Recap of Creation Week”

“4. These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens, 5. And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground. 6. But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground. 7. And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. 8. And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed.

There are some interesting points that need to be made here.....The text makes it look like the garden of Eden is east of where Adam was formed.

A lot of Jewish Historians believe that The Lord was standing in Jerusalem when everything was created....including Adam. Here is an interesting passage in Ezekiel 5:5....”Thus saith the Lord GOD; This is Jerusalem: I have set it in the midst of the nations and countries that are round about her.”

Most people agree that the garden of Eden or the garden of God was located in ancient Mesopotamia, and if you look west of where ancient Mesopotamia is located you’re looking right at Israel. God put His Name On Jerusalem which became the capital of Israel when King David “A man after God’s own heart” moved the capital of Israel from Hebron to Jerusalem!!!  Here’s the verse that talks about that.

2 Chronicles 6:6...”But I have chosen Jerusalem, that my name might be there; and have chosen David to be over my people Israel.”

*****INTERESTING POINT*****

There is a lot of evidence that ancient Mesopotamia where the Garden of Eden was located. That area is what we know as modern day Iraq. modern day Iraq is where the Tower of Babel attempted to be built. As our study continues we will see a lot of Satan’s attacks coming out of this area.

9. And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil. 10. And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became into four heads. 11. The name of the first is Pison: that is it which compasseth the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold; 12. And the gold of that land is good: there is bdellium and the onyx stone. 13. And the name of the second river is Gihon: the same is it that compasseth the whole land of Ethiopia. 14. And the name of the third river is Hiddekel: that is it which goeth toward the east of Assyria. And the fourth river is Euphrates.

These verses 9-14 show the rivers that flowed from the Garden of Eden.

15. And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. 16. And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: 17. But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

Now we see Adam being placed in the Garden of Eden and The Lord gives the first commandment to Man.

Amazingly it is only one commandment....not 10 or the hundreds that they have in Israel now. And we will see in the next chapter that man could not keep one commandment.

Why would men believe they can keep more than one commandment....that is just ridiculous. That is why we all need a Savior... and we needed Jesus Christ “God in the flesh” to come to earth and die for our sins so we can receive forgiveness of sins.

18. And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him. 19. And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof. 20. And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.

Thoughts about how Adam knew the difference between clean and unclean animals.

21. And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; 22. And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. 23. And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. 24. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. 25. And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

Now we see God instituting marriage for the first time and forming a wife “Eve” for Adam!!!
