Could Adam and Eve be a picture of Jesus Christ and the Church?

 As I think about the story of Adam and Eve, I find a lot of similarities between the love that Adam has for Eve....and the love that Jesus Christ has for the church.

For a long time I have wondered why Adam would eat the forbidden fruit when he was told DIRECTLY from the Lord that he would surely die if he did that.  

The Forbidden Fruit

15 And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. 16 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: 17But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.                                    ********************************

So Adam was told directly from the Lord that the day he eats of the fruit on that tree he will surely die.

After that the book of Genesis gives us the account of God putting Adam into a deep sleep and taking one of his ribs and creating Eve.

As God’s word continues.....we read how Eve was deceived by Satan to eat the Fruit that God had commanded them not to eat....and Eve gives the fruit to Adam who also eats it knowing good and well that by doing that he will die.

I can only imagine the amount of love that Adam had for Eve knowing that by doing this act Adam would be forced to leave the garden with Eve and would not be able to eat of the tree of life and he would die along with Eve.

If Adam would not have eaten that fruit I think it’s safe to say that God would have created a new woman for Adam.....but Adam didn’t want a new wife....Adam wanted Eve for his wife because that is who God gave Adam, and I believe that’s why he ate of the forbidden fruit that brought sin into the world once he ate it.

One of the amazing things about this story is how quickly the Lord sprung into motion as soon as Sin entered the world and the Lord made the first prophecy in the Bible which is in Genesis 3:15.

************************************************15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.                                              **********************************              The Lord makes this declaration that He will put separation between Eve’s seed until the time that Mary gives birth to Jesus Christ the Savior of the world who will also die, but through His Death.....Burial.....and Resurrection provide redemption and salvation for all who Believe in Jesus Christ as their Savior!!!!

This explains why Jesus Christ had to be born of a virgin when he became flesh and came into this world. Jesus Christ had to have a Heavenly Father that was Sinless.

I really like the last part of Genesis 3:15 where the Lord declares to Satan that this Future Redeemer will have HIS heel bruised but this Future Redeemer who is Jesus Christ will Bruise Satans Head!!!!

When you think about Jesus Christ who came to be sin for us and he never knew Sin like it says in 2 Corinthians 5:21 it reminds me of how Adam never knew Sin until he ate the forbidden fruit after Eve had sinned.              

*******************^************* For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him 

What an incredible Love that God has for us.....and I believe that kind of love is what caused Adam to do something that would cause him to die....but be able to remain with the woman that God created for him.               

As we read through God’s Word we see example after example where we are the bride of Christ.....and Jesus Christ is the Last Adam.

Here is my favorite reference about Jesus Christ being the “Last Adam” in 1 Corinthians 15:45-47

45 And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit. 46 Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual. 47 The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven.

When we think of the love that Adam had for Eve.....we can rest assured that the love that Jesus Christ has for the Church also known as the Bride of Christ.....WILL NEVER RUN OUT!!!!!

Here’s some of my favorite references about the church being the bride of Christ 😀

2 Corinthians 11:2..... 2  For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.

Revelation 19:7-8...... 7  Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready. 8  And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: [1] for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints

I also love the way the Apostle Paul compares the love that Husbands should have for their wives with the love that Christ has for the Church in Ephesians 5:25-27

25  Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; 26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, 27  That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.

Here’s a rundown of the similarities between the Love that Adam had for Eve and the LOVE that Jesus Christ has for The Church.

1)Adam was willing to die so that he wouldn’t be separated from Eve.

Jesus Christ was willing to die for the sins of the world so that we won’t be separated from Him.

2)Adam didn’t leave or forsake his wife.

Jesus Christ will never leave or forsake those of us who believe in Him for our salvation 

But the MOST IMPORTANT distinction that has to be made between Adam and Jesus Christ is summed up in 

Romans 5:12-17

12Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: 13(For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law. 14Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.

15But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many. 16And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification. 17For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)

Through the sin of Adam sin passed to all mankind.....but through the Death....Burial.....and Resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Eternal Life awaits All People who believe in Jesus Christ as their Savior!!!!!
